Savoring Spring: Exciting Travel Ideas for Your Break

Spring Break is already upon us… Have you made your travel plans?

 

Students of all ages look forward to Spring Break.  It’s the opportunity for a break from the study grind and it’s approaching FAST.   If you haven’t made plans or just don’t know what you want to do this year… Here are some ideas to consider…

 

Disney

For all those who LOVE Disney… A Disney Cruise is a great idea as it’s a multi-generational option.  So, if you have a family that consists of grandparents, parents, teens, and young children… everyone is covered.

 

You also have Disney World and Disney Land if you don’t have your sea legs yet.  They offer a wide variety of activities for the whole family. 

 

Orlando

Now Orlando offers a plethora of options.  You have Universal, Disney, SeaWorld, Legoland, Discovery Cove (one of my favorites), Aquatica Orlando, Universal Volcano Bay and so much more!!

 

You can purchase multi-day passes and stay right on the park or close by.  But you already know about these locations.  Let me share with you some great finds that you may not know about….

 

Gatlinburg, TN

If you love to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, there are cabins and hotels nestled in the Smokies.  There is also the Gatlinburg SkyBridge, Anakeesta’s Rail Runner Mountain Coaster (for those who love a good ride), Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies and so much more.

 

If you are interested in getting your hands a little dirty, you have Abrams Falls, Alum Cave, Laurel Falls, The Gatlinburg Trail and so many more hiking options!

 

Enjoy Ober Mountain for ice skating, bumper cars, scenic chairlift, wildlife habitat, or if there is still snow on the ground… ski slopes!

 

Nashville, TN

Whether you’re a lover of country music or not, Nashville, TN has so much to offer.  From the traditional sites of the Grand Ole Opry where you can catch a show with legends and local artists, or visit Madame Tussauds Museum which celebrates music like no other, or the National Museum of African American Music a one of a kind music museum that celebrates the contributions and rich history of Black music.   You can’t forget the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum or the infamous Bluebird Café.  Nashville holds a rich history of music that will delight your ears and your soul.

 

But that’s not all Nashville has to offer…

 

For those who are lovers of art, there is the Frist Art Museum that focuses on bringing the best of the art world to Nashville.  Delight your eye and emotions as you view art exhibitions that provide interactive experiences for each visitor.   Art lovers can tour the city and visit various sculptures and statues like the Recording Angel or the Ghost Ballet.  

 

Last, but not least, for those who love history, there’s the Tennessee State Museum.

And we can’t forget our foodies… Nashville has so many delights and you won’t be disappointed!  From family friendly to gluten free focused restaurants, you have plenty of choices.   They even have a Foodie Track all planned out with options for you!

 

Torrey, UT

Capitol Reef Resort is an unparalleled experience!  Enjoy the rugged beauty of Torrey Utah.   They offer horseback trail rides, jeep safaris, the Utah National Parks and so much more. 


Hike the Hickman Bridge, taste delicious fruits from local orchards in the Park or view the etchings in the rock walls at the Petroglyph Panel.  Enhance the experience staying in a luxury Teepee, Wagon or Cabin with beautiful views.   Escape to the lush outdoors and enjoy a bit of luxury at the same time.  You can have the best of both worlds!

 

Tybee Island, GA

There is a hidden treasure in Georgia called Tybee Island.  It’s a place filled with beautiful views and great people.   If you are a beach lover but want to have a few other options at your fingertips, you can enjoy the Tybee Light Station & Museum.  Or the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. 

 

You have options like sailing, bike rides, fishing and long walks on the beach if you are looking for ways to fill your day.   The nightlife is filled with fun and good food.  You have Wet Willie’s, Sting Ray’s Seafood and North Beach Bar & Grill.  There are so many options…too many to include them all here. Enjoy adult beverages, scenic views and great food!

 

Now if you are more into shopping…well Tybee has some local stops that you must see… Visit Seaside Sisters, Kelly & Company, Irritable Pelican Gallery & Pelican’s Palette.  Enjoy local goods such as Mermaid Cottages Candles or wrap yourself in a Sarong by Tybee Island Clothing Company.   Spend some dollars, help the local economy, and go home with some beautiful unique finds!!

 

Blue Ridge, GA

The Georgia Mountains offer so much more then just heights!  Enjoy the magnificent landscapes, running streams and lakes while getting cozy at the outdoor fire pit sipping hot cocoa and roasting marshmallows.   Enjoy tiny homes or cabins with breath taking views of the mountains. Grab a canoe or kayak and spend the day splashing in the local lakes or fishing in the local rivers. 

 

If you want to get in a leg workout, enjoy hiking on the Aska Trails or do a bike ride and enjoy a few miles of the 17-mile trail.   Or if you want something closer to the water, but a great hike, try the Ocoee Whitewater Center which has a one-mile hiking trail.  It includes the 330-foot suspension bridge which holds gorgeous views.  And these are just a few of the options available.


Now if you are interested in going out of the country… here are some great finds to consider…

 

Portugal

Albufeira is a place with many secrets awaiting your arrival.  Enjoy the caves, and dolphins or a tour of the historic Algarve, the beaches like Praia da Falesia, Praia Gale, Praia Sao Rafael or Praia dos Olhos de Agua.   Take the family to Zoomarine Algarve Theme Park for fun and education all wrapped into one. 

 

You can enjoy kayaking, cliff jumping, boat rides, nature and wildlife tours, landmarks, four-wheel drive fun and whale watching just to name a few. 

 

Lisbon the capital of Portugal is a beauty to behold.  Whether you’re enjoying the beaches or the architecture of the city to the food and wine tours… there is plenty to do in this magical city. 


Take a guided tour through Obidos, Nazare or Fatima. Enjoy a helicopter flight or a boat trip.  Spend your afternoons lounging at the tranquil Praia da Ursa in Sintra or enjoy the clear beautiful waters of Parque Natural da Arrabida or walk the sands of the longest beach on the Estoril coast, Praia de Carcavelos. 

 

Enjoy gardens, city tours, food tours, landmarks, museums, cultural tours and much more!

 

Canada

Canada has beauty and lure all its own.  If you are interested in soaking up some nature outside of the U.S., here are some options to consider. 

 

Niagara Falls is a site filled with wonder.  Depending on your Spring Break dates, you can enjoy the bloom of the flowers, see the Falls up close and enjoy a boat tour. 

 

Algonquin Provincial Park is great for the adventurous family.   They have a wide range of hiking trails and it’s great for backcountry camping.   There are a host of different activities such as biking, boating, canoeing, and fishing. 

 

The Butchart Gardens depending on when your Spring Break falls, you may be so lucky as to catch their Daffodils and Hyacinths… or even their Tulips and Cherry Blossoms!


Depending on where you want to go in Canada, there are several options to tickle your fancy for a great Spring Break vacation!

 

These are just a few of the options that you may want to consider.   There is a whole world of choices for you, your family and friends to engage in as you take a break from the studying grind!
